Tract Housing:
A system of housing displaying many qualities similar to a cancer - uncontrolled growth, the invasion of non-cancerous neighbors, complete homogenization, and a detrimental if not ultimately fatal effect on the larger body. Tract housing is one of the finer examples of the modern conundrum. By standardizing housing arrangements, we make it cheaper for the consumer, enabling people to have fancier and more elaborate houses than they would normally be able to afford. All you have to do is give up your individual identity, so just sign on the dotted line because you weren't using that old thing anyways.

Modern Conundrum:
Rampant industrialization has made the production of goods far cheaper and quicker than ever before without sacrificing overall quality. In comparison to our ancestors, we've all got stuff that would make kings and emperors jealous. Rampant industrialization has also led to the homogenization of goods. In comparison to each other, we've all got the stuff that increasingly becomes the same as everybody else's stuff. This has the odd result that our enjoyment of our stuff steadily falls even as the absolute quality per unit money increases.

Human:
You, me, and everyone we know. We believe in common sense, even though common sense told us the Earth was flat. We believe in science, even though it gave us guns and bombs. We believe in religion, even though we suffer without apparent reason. And we believe that every other member of our species is an idiot.
